I started this journal’s overarching ‘daydream’ theme thinking I’d only use children’s books for inspiration. I’ve since started taking a broader approach to it, which is how I came to make this month’s theme that was inspired by Dungeons & Dragons.

When I was a little girl, my cousin and I would lay down holding hands, and we would ‘dream together’, telling each other a collaborative story while we fell asleep during a sleepover. D&D is like that, I’ve been playing it for years now, I love the process of making up a great story together with others.

What doesn’t kill you gives you XP
People sometimes like to say “it made you stronger” when they talk about trauma. That doesn’t sit well with me, I’m not stronger because of it, I am strong despite of it. I like this version of the quote better, because it’s neutral. It’s also a great play on words in this theme, which is why I included it.

but I really love how it looks now.
Lately I’ve been working on creating a D&D adventure of my own. It is nowhere near finished, but when I get it ready to be played, I’m really hoping to draw in some people close to me who haven’t been introduced to the game before. I can’t wait to watch them learn the game and experience the freedom of playing a character that they are in control of. I’d love to share that with them!

I used several elements from the 2024 Player’s Handbook in this theme. The outline on the title page, the separators on the calendars as well as the daily writing pages, the font for the titles and the colour scheme are either directly copied from the book or heavily inspired by it.
Mood tracking will be done through the little D20 dice on each daily writing page. Instead of using colours, I’ll be using numbers ranging from 20 to 1. Here’s to hoping we all roll lots of natural 20’s and no natural 1’s at all this month!
If you have any questions or comments to share, I look forward to reading them below. And if you want to invite me to a game, I’d love to hear about that too!
