You can read my thoughts about the fight in the ‘spoiler’ section below:

After having cut the previous stream short a bit because I wasn’t feeling up to a boss fight, I came back refreshed the following week for my fight with Quelaag. I fully expected the usual learning curve of dieing a million times before finally ‘catching on’, like I’ve become used to on most boss fights. This one unexpectedly went a bit different, which left me literally speechless.

I had put some thought into the fight throughout the week and had decided that instead of keeping my distance and rolling away to avoid her attacks, I would try and stay close to her. I had reviewed the fight from my previous stream and noticed how she swings her sword straight forward or high over and indicates her spider’s attacks by touching its head. I was too overwhelmed the first times I encountered her to even notice any of this, but knowing what to look for this time really helped a lot! This is most noticeable at the beginning of the fight when I roll back because she hugs the spider, right before trying to nuke my brains out with her AoE attack.

As a sidenote, I have since learned what ‘critical attacks’ are and how the Hornet Ring works. Thanks Urghor!
